Lan Wangji said, "He is a good if strict teacher. From what he has mentioned about the classes he teaches here, he does assign several long research papers each term, with a fair amount of original research demands."
He wished that he could just say something like, strangely enough the pas you helped him be a better teacher more willing to accept outside opinions, even if he would not admit it, but he makes people show their point with a lot of research. There was no good way to explain that though. He had sat in on Uncle's lectures a few times, mostly when he was still in high school, and the discussions had been interesting.
He added, "I have not taken any of Uncle's classes officially, but I am familiar with the material. It seemed better to avoid potential accusations of favoritism and focus my studies elsewhere."

Wuxian groaned and rolled his head back, "I was considering looking into his classes to see if they overlapped with any credits I needed, but now maybe not. I hate writing long papers. I can't focus enough for long papers." He said simply. That was something that hadn't changed, though he did find slightly more enjoyment in writing his own material than, say, the 3,000 rules of the Gusu Lan Sect. Even so, unless it was a topic he really enjoyed he tended to get distracted far too easily when writing papers.
He noticed a building coming into their view and pointed it out, "This was the cafeteria you wanted to go to right?" He asked.

Lan Wangji nodded, glad that he had at least pushed Wei Wuxian in an informed direction about Uncle's classes. He would rather deal with less strife between them this life if at all possible, even if Uncle had eventually come to accept Wei Wuxian's existence in their past life.
He nodded again when Wei Wuxian indicated the cafeteria and said, "Yes, this is my preferred cafeteria. There are more options that I am able to eat than at the others."
He had determined relatively early in college that he had to be careful with college food. A lot of it was rich and heavy in a way that did not sit terribly well with his stomach and made it harder for him to sleep well. Combined with not having had much tolerance for noise yet, it had made for a somewhat miserable first quarter as he had figured things out.
He pulled out his student ID on the way in, and asked Wei Wuxian, "What sorts of food do you prefer? I sometimes cook at home on the weekends and bring leftovers back to the dorms."
He figured that there probably wasn't a huge overlap in their tastes, there had not been before, but it seemed worth asking.

Wuxian nodded, "That's fine. I don't really have any dietary restrictions so I just go wherever, but if you ever want to eat together, I'll remember you prefer this one." He said.
He thought over his food preferences, "Hmm... I guess, it's kind of whatever is available. I'm not picky, but I do prefer spicy foods. Sichuan, Mexican, Thai... I'm all over that stuff." He said with a laugh. "Also since I work at a coffee shop, I eat a lot of what's available there. Luckily they're a bit more hipster-y than most so my go-to tends to be at least a little healthier than pastries 24/7, but... you know. We've still got junk food there and sometimes it's all that's left. And meat. But like, if you're the kind of vegetarian that doesn't like seeing other people eat it, I'll respect that to the best of my ability." He rambled.

Lan Wangji determined that Wei Wuxian had not changed much in his food preferences. He said, "I am not sure that much of what I cook will be appealing to you in that case. Though I may offer you some if I bring back leftovers. Our tastes do not seem to particularly align."
When Wei Wuxian implied the question of whether he would be bothered by having meat eaten around him, he shook his head and said, "I do not mind what other people choose to eat. It is a personal preference partially based on tradition and religion and partially based on my stomach's opinions of what foods are acceptable. Though I am, admittedly, not hugely fond of the smells of pork and beef."

"Hey now, I am always up for free food." Wuxian said with a laugh. Especially if you cooked it, he thought, but kept that to himself.
"Noted. I can, at the very least, keep those foods from entering our dorm so that a small space does not get filled with smells you find unpleasant." He promised.

Lan Wangji figured that they would probably be going to rather different food stations to collect their meals. He glanced around the dining hall. It was not terribly crowded yet, so he figured that they would be able to get a table wherever they wanted. He asked, "Do you want to each go get our food and then meet at a table over near the windows?"
He indicated which windows he meant, the ones over to the side that gave a view of trees as opposed to the entrance area. He figured that they would be able to find each other relatively easily again as long as they had a limited area to look.
He waited for confirmation before he headed to grab food.

Wuxian nodded, "sounds good." He said, heading off towards the hot food. He ordered a bacon cheeseburger, some spicy wings, and a few other foods that were spicy and probably unhealthy, and then grabbed some water and ice cream for a dessert before heading over to the general area Wangji has said to meet at. He found a spot and got settled, spacing out a bit as he waited for Wangji to join him.
He was still in shock they had found each other again. Reason told him there had been reincarnations since they last saw each other as cultivators and now, but he didn't have any memories of those lives, just the one he had now, and the one from back then, so he didn't know for sure. Also considering the track record of this life, all the cultivators were being gathered together again. He wondered for a moment if there was some cosmic reasoning for it before waving it off and paying attention to his food, starting with the wings.

Lan Wangji went to the vegetarian stir fry station that this particular dining hall always seemed to have. It was a build your own order set up where you filled a bowl with vegetables and other toppings and told them what noodles and sauce you wanted, and then they cooked it there. It was a reliable food, and while Lan Wangji could make better himself, this was far less effort. He gathered just about every green vegetable they had, only forgoing kale, and some mushrooms and bamboo shoots, and asked for rice noodles and ginger-sesame sauce.
He also stopped by the tea station and brewed himself a cup of the acceptable wulong that they had there. He was not surprised to find that Wei Wuxian had already found a seat when he emerged from the food area. He went to go sit across for Wei Wuxian and nodded politely, "I hope that I have not kept you waiting long."
The food on Wei Wuxian's plate was honestly somewhat baffling to Lan Wangji, but he did not comment on it, instead eating his own food with carefully and quietly, using the chopsticks that he had collected from the station that made the stir fry. He watched Wei Wuxian though, curious of his habits.

"Nope! I pretty much just sat down." Wuxian replied, snapping out of his daze finally. He glanced down at Wangji's plate, "Woah! I didn't know they had stir fry! I might have to go up and get some to take back to the dorm with me." He exclaimed. He continued munching on his own food, but watch Wangji. "Is it any good here?" He asked, figuring he could trust Wangji's judgement on that. He hesitated before adding, "Can I... try some of yours? You can say no, I'm just really curious about the taste."

Lan Wangji was not terribly surprised that Wei Wuxian had not noticed the stir fry station, or paid attention to it if he had. It was something that required waiting, and that was not necessarily a trait that Lan Wangji expected of him. He carefully moved a bit of his food to an empty edge of one of Wei Wuxian's plates, making sure to get a few different types of vegetables and some noodles moved.
He said, "I am not sure if it will be to your taste. It is a mild but reasonably flavorful sesame ginger sauce and many types of vegetables. They do have meat options and several things that are spicier though. They cook it on the spot, so it always has a slight wait time while they are preparing it."
He sipped his tea and watched Wei Wuxian to see how the other man responded to the food. He was curious if this was something that was more to Wei Wuxian's taste in this life than it had been in the last. Realizing that there had been a question in all that as well. Lan Wangji added, "It is decent as dining hall food goes. The vegetables are more fresh than in many of the precooked vegetarian options, and I appreciate being able to choose the sauce. I can make significantly better stir fry when I have access to a kitchen, but I am also not cooking for nearly as many people."

Wuxian tried the stir fry and kept a neutral face as he nodded. "It's not bad, but you're right about it not quite being to my tastes. I don't mind ginger, and I don't mind sesame, but I'm not the biggest fan of them being mixed together. That or, it's meshing with the vegetables weirdly to me. Anyway, I think I'll wait on getting some to bring back since it requires a wait time and I don't want to hold us up. But it's awesome to know it exists."
He smiled as Wangji mentioned he cooked. "Well, now I want to try your stir fry one day." He said simply.

Lan Wangji indicated what was on Wei Wuxian's tray and said, "I suspect it has too many vegetables for you."
Lan Wangji nodded and said, "I often bring back leftovers when I cook at home, so I am sure that you will get that opportunity at some point."
He focused on his food again, eating quietly and carefully so as not to make a mess. He wondered what living with Wei Wuxian like this was going to be like.
He hoped that if Wei Wuxian still preferred conversation to silence he was OK filling the silence and having Lan Wangji give short response.

Wuxian laughed and nodded, "Ah, maybe. I mean, I don't hate vegetables, but I do prefer them like... fried or in a soup. I like lotus a lot. And potatoes. And onions. Those are vegetables." He rambled. There were plenty of other vegetables he liked too, but most of them were not of the green varieties. He grinned, adding in a simple "awesome!" at Wangji's comment about bringing back left overs.
He ate in silence for a bit, a part of him wondering if the Lan clan still raised their kids to not talk during meals or if Wangji was just quiet. Well, rather he knew the latter but was still questioning the prior. He realized he'd been quiet for a while and struggled to find a conversation topic as his mind was stuck on trying to figure out if Wangji had his memories.
"Oi, Lan Zhan," Wuxian paused for a second, but continued on as if he hadn't just called him by the (technically) wrong name. After all, confidence was key in moments like that, right? "Besides music, what are your hobbies? Do you like to like, watch movies or anything?" He asked curiously.

Lan Wangji was startled by the sudden loudness, but it was also to be expected. He had almost been wondering if Wei Wuxian was quieter in this life. He finished his bite and then replied, "I like to read. I also do calligraphy and martial arts."
He paused, taking another bite and chewing it carefully, washing it down with a sip of tea before he continued, "I rarely watch films or televisions shows outside of occasionally for assignments. Sometimes I do find that I enjoy documentaries on topics that I am interested in."
He did not say that he often found movies overwhelmingly loud and confusing to his ears. Television was if anything worse because it was less well balanced in its sound. He occasionally found film scores appealing though.
He took another deliberate bite, slowly eating it and washing it down with tea before asking, "What about you?"
