A-Yuan closed his eyes and imagined living in Jingyi's house. Even without Jingyi living there he knew it'd probably be a much better situation, but that would never happen. Not unless he filed for emancipation and he honestly wasn't sure if he even wanted that. Sure, he wanted away from the church, but he already felt alone, emancipation would just make that legally true.
A-Yuan's eyes popped open and he froze when he heard Wangji clear his throat. He we embarrassed at being found in his friend's arms, what Wangji-ge would think. "T-Thank you for having me," A-Yuan managed, pulling out of Jingyi's arms.
He watched Wangji go and suddenly his friend was standing in front of him, offering a hand, A-Yuan took it and stood up, "yeah, let's eat."

Jingyi noticed that A-Yuan seemed awkward about Wangji-ge seeing them cuddling, and realized that maybe it could have looked like something other than friends hugging and that might worry A-Yuan, especially since he was experiencing a lot of confusion around sexuality, on top of everything with past lives. He steered the two of them to the dining room, where Uncle was already at the table, and Wangi-ge was in the process of setting down that final place settings, initial portions already served and tea poured at each spot.
Jingyi was trained to be relatively quiet at meal time. They didn't still follow the old rules of no talking at all during meals, but meals were expected to be free of unnecessary chatter. However, meal time was one of the few times that Jingyi could handle long stretches of quiet. Food was enough to distract him.
Wangji-ge had made simple food, a soup with tofu and greens and a noodle dish with several different types of vegetable. Jingyi liked meat, especially chicken, but this food was sort of fundamental to his concept of home. Vegetarian dishes with distinct herbal flavors that were full of whatever green vegetables were fresh. Wangji-ge was a much better cook than either of his parents or Uncle, so it meant that they were actually good, with hints of ginger and slightly richer flavors, instead of overly bitter like the greens could sometimes get if badly handled.
Jingyi was surprised as he sat down that it was Uncle who broke the silence first as they started eating, "A-Yuan, Jingyi tells us that you have regained your memories of a past life. How long have you been experiencing them?"

A-Yuan followed Jingyi in and thanked the Lan's for having him over. He sat down and placed his napkin on his lap, thanked them for the food and waited for his elders to start eating before eating himself.
He looked up, a little surprised Lan Qiren had broken the silence. He'd never been unfriendly, just quiet. A-Yuan cleared his throat a little, "Yes, I'm remembering... I think just about everything Lan Sizhui knew when he was sixteen. I regained them after I met Jingyi. They all came flooding in at once, the sisters even brought me to the ER because of the migraine. It took days to subside."

Jingyi focused on eating his food, listening to the conversation carefully. He mostly went between watching Wangji-ge and watching A-Yuan. Wangji-ge was watching A-Yuan carefully and fondly. It was somehow strange that in this life, at least for now, he was much closer to Wangji-ge than A-Yuan was.
Lan Qiren continued, tone still serious, "The early teens is not an uncommon time to regain one's memories. That is similar to Jingyi or Xichen. However, that they overwhelmed you so much is a little bit more concerning. Do you have trouble sorting through them and distinguishing between them and your memories from this life?"
It was a small expression, but Jingyi noticed that Wangji-ge looked concerned. Mostly though, he knew that neither of them would say anything that wasn't completely necessary before Uncle was done asking his questions. Jingyi would probably mostly want to focus on getting A-Yuan to ask his own questions in return at that point.

A-Yuan nodded a little too hard, "The sisters are often really concerned when I say things that aren't true or don't make sense, and I usually don't realize I was talking about something from Lan Sizhui's life until they give me that look. I think... if I didn't live at a church, they'd have had me psychologically evaluated, maybe even committed by now. Instead, it's a lot of confession and Hail Marys and other types of... self... reflection," he tried to carefully phrase the end of his explanation carefully.
"I honestly thought that it'd be easier to tease the two lifetimes apart, but they really blend seamlessly. Sometimes I don't know where one begins and the other ends." A-Yuan looked over at Jingyi, "when we met, we clicked instantly. Like, eerily so, and I think that's because Lan Sizhui instantly recognized you. I honestly don't remember us becoming friends, I just knew we were the best of friends."
He chewed on his lip, hoping that what he'd said didn't hurt Jingyi's feelings. He hadn't meant that they wouldn't be friends if it weren't for Lan Sizhui, he just meant that the two lives had blended together so well that it was obvious that they were and would be friends.

Jingyi could tell that this was upsetting to A-Yuan, and he reached out to squeeze his friend's hand. He said softly, "Uncle can explain better, but there are things that can help with the sorting it out."
He was worried for A-Yuan though. It couldn't have been comfortable to spend that many years with the mixed up memories and having trouble sorting through them. Jingyi was a little surprised that Uncle didn't scold him for speaking first, but Uncle seemed more focused on dealing with the issue at hand. He said, "Jingyi is quite right. There are methods to help with differentiating between the memories of past lives and your own life. We train in them from a young age to make that transition easier, but they can be learned later. Understanding what is going on is a good first step though. We generally combine education about the history of it along with philosophical and to an extent what could be categorized as religious understanding with physical and musical disciplines that help train an awareness of the body and the senses that are good for grounding oneself. Exactly what techniques work best for each person varies, though meditation is a common starting point because it is something that helps teach even young children to sit with an awareness of themselves."
Jingyi was relieved that Uncle seemed very serious about helping with this. He figured that it wouldn't be a thing that could be fixed all at once, but he wanted to help Sizhui, and he was pretty sure that he could, especially with Uncle's help.

A-Yuan nodded slowly, looking down at Jingyi's hand and squeezing it halfheartedly in reply. He looked over to Wangji-ge and removed his hand from Jingyi's, placing it back in his lap.
"So where do I start? And how do I do this without the sisters finding out? If they think I'm studying any other sort of religion they'll just assume I'm worshipping Satan. It kind of comes with the territory." A-Yuan looked Lan Qiren directly in the eyes, "what do I need to do? Please teach me." He stood up and bowed to the older man.

Jingyi realized as A-Yuan seemed so uncomfortable about his affection towards him in front of Wangji-ge and Uncle that if A-Yuan really only had clear memories of his past life up until Sizhui had been about sixteen, he might not remember about Hanguang-jun and Wei Wuxian. Jingyi obviously remembered a little bit further into his own past life. Uncle made a little more sense to worry about. Jingyi was pretty sure that the modern world and the sensibilities of the Bay Area had improved Uncle's general personality. He was still strict, and liked rules and order, but he had no fundamental issues with Jingyi's sexuality or if he did, he was very very good at keeping them hidden.
He could see the scowl forming on Uncle's face at the mention of the sisters' potential reaction, and Jingyi remembered that Uncle had strong opinions on the religious intolerances of Christianity. He was pretty sure that Uncle wouldn't bring that rant into this conversation, but he was also pretty sure that it would make Uncle even more sympathetic towards A-Yuan's situation than he might have been otherwise. Wangji-ge was also making a face, albeit a less obvious one than Uncle's.
Uncle managed to keep his voice even as he said, "Hopefully they do not have objections to you visiting your friend's household or studying some music or perhaps even martial arts, or getting some tutoring in history. After all, your friend's Uncle is a professor at Stanford."
This was about the closest that Jingyi had ever heard Uncle come to suggesting lying about something, though every single suggestion that he was making was admittedly a true statement. They were certainly also misleading statements.
He was a little bit surprised when Wangji-ge was the one who spoke next. He said, "Meditation with guidance, perhaps meditation with music if Uncle agrees, would be the most typical place to start. It helps you learn to focus on the senses of your body and current self, and instruction during meditation can help with triage on your thoughts and memories that float to the surface."

A-Yuan looked apologetically at Jingyi, he hadn't meant to snatch his hand away like that. He just couldn't take questioning his sexuality and his very identity at the same time, especially in front of others.
He swallowed loudly at Qiren's suggestion of almost lying. "If I come here any more often than I have been, the sisters will want to meet you. They'll want to know who I'm spending my time with... they're already not Jingyi's biggest fans but they let me see him because he's smart."
Saying all this out loud, A-Yuan was starting to realize how controlling the sisters and church were. He'd never really thought about it that way. "I would like to try the guided meditation.. please," he added a little belatedly.
He closed his eyes for a second, a little overwhelmed. Seeing so many people that Sizhui knew was bringing up all sorts of memories are starting to fog up his head. "Master Wei is... Is he here?" he shook his head and placed it in his hands, wincing at the pain. "Never mind.. I don't know why I asked that."

Uncle nodded and said, "If you think that it would help, I am willing to meet with them. I am a respectable adult, who both works at a university and offers some private lessons in both music and classical Chinese. If you wished to have that be a reason to be over here more often."
Uncle nodded at the request to try the guided meditation and said, "We will do that as soon as dinner is finished. Wangji may provide music if he deems it useful, and considering the circumstances, it most likely would be."
Uncle's face was a little bit muddled over the mention of Wei Wuxian, but before he said anything, Wangji-ge surprised probably everyone at the table by saying, "Wei Wuxian has reincarnated, though I do not know if he has his memories at all yet or if he will even get them. He is also a student at Stanford. I have only met with him again recently."
Jingyi knew that Wangji-ge must have feelings about that, and if he could tell anything about the reaction, he was pretty sure that Wangji-ge was tentatively happy and hopeful about it, but Wangji-ge had managed to keep his tone calm and even. He reached out and squeezed A-Yuan's shoulder reassuringly for a second before dropping his hand back out of his friend's space and said, "It makes sense. He was really important to you when you were Sizhui."
He still didn't know how much his friend really remembered of Wei Wuxian yet, that would involve reaching into Sizhui's slightly older memories, which might or might not have surfaced yet. He added, "I'm sorry I've not managed to stay on the sisters' good side for your sake."

A-Yuan looked up, a little too hopefully at hearing that Wei Wuxian had been reincarnated. He honestly couldn't even pinpoint why that made him happy. He looked at his friend's hand on his shoulder and tried to cover it with his own, but Jingyi withdrew his too quickly.
"I'll ask the sisters when you can come visit them. They will likely have a long list of questions for you," he tried to sit back up straight, knowing he was being rude by resting his head in his hands, no matter how badly his head hurt.
He looked at his plate, unsure if he'd actually taken a single bite yet. Across from him, Wangji-ge seemed content, maybe even happy at the mention of Wei Wuxian. Then there was Lan Qiren who seemed like he was teetering between raging at the church and coddling him and beside him, Jingyi was looking at him with concern.
A-Yuan quickly stood up and ran down the hall to the bathroom, barely making it to the toilet before vomiting. His head was pounding and all he could hear was his heartbeat in his own ears.

Uncle nodded at A-Yuan's comment about having him talk to the sisters. He was clearly not looking forward to the idea, but Jingyi knew that he would do a lot to take care of someone he viewed as one of his own and therefore his responsibility to protect.
When A-Yuan ran from the room, Jingyi tensed, concerned, and looked at Uncle, eyes wide. Uncle surprised him by saying, "Go check on him."
He arrived at the door to the restroom just in time to hear A-Yuan being sick. He grimaced for his friend's sake. He hesitated, not sure for a second what to say, and finally settled on, going to rub his friend's back and say, "Once you're pretty sure that nothing more is going to come up, I'll get you some water and we can get you somewhere comfortable to sit. Do you think you're stress sick or sick sick?"
He felt like he wasn't quite saying the right thing, but he also wasn't used to looking out for people being sick, so he was trying his best.
In the main room, after agreement from Uncle, Wangji cleared the table, covering A-Yuan's dishes and setting them in the refrigerator to be reheated later if he started feeling better. He figured that he could always make something that was more stomach soothing if that was what was needed as well. Everyone else had finished their food.
He went and set up the guqin that he had brought with him to the house, feeling like soothing music would probably be a good idea whether or not A-Yuan was ready to try meditation after having been sick. On the one hand, if this was all connected, and it was stress, it might help, on the other hand, it would be one more new thing.

A-Yuan coughed a few more times before sitting back a little, "stress sick I think.... but it's never happened before," he rubbed his temples. "I feel like someone is taking an axe to my brain."
He made a face when he noticed the taste of vomit still lingering. "Why is this happening?" he asked, wrapping his arms around his knees and burying his face in them. His mind was racing and he was trying to calm it. The more it raced, the more his stomach roiled. He clenched his teeth and screwed his eyes shut, hoping the wave of nausea and panic would leave him.

Jingyi's brain caught up to him a little bit, and he carefully reached over to rub the back of A-Yuan's neck, putting gentle pressure on some of the pressure points there that helped alleviate headaches and tension, then taking A-Yuan's hands and and wrists one at a time and applying similar gentle pressure to the points on the inner wrist that helped with nausea. He wasn't nearly as good at this as anyone else in the house, but at least it was something that he could do that would hopefully help A-Yuan feel a little better.
He said soothingly, as he filled a cup with water from the tap and placed it next to A-Yuan before moving to just rubbing his neck and shoulders and back soothingly, "I don't know why this is happening, but I'm here for you, and everyone in this house wants to make sure you're OK. You're going through something hard, and it's not your fault, but maybe we can help. We won't go back out there until you're ready, OK?"

A-Yuan eased into all of Jingyi's ministrations, happy that his nausea was beginning to subside. He looked at the water next to him but was too afraid to take it. He knew he might just throw it back up and his stomach muscles were already sore from their first time throwing up whatever he'd eaten.
"I just wish it would stop," he sighed, "I don't even know what part I want to stop, I just want it to stop." He really needed some sort of way to sort this out. Not knowing only made him feel more useless which only induced more panic. He quickly returned to the toilet, dry heaving at this point because there was nothing left.
He spent a good fifteen minutes alternating between dry heaves and hyperventilating before tiring himself out enough to lay down on the bathroom floor.
