"New to campus, that makes sense," Meng Yao said as he sat up straight. "You kill me when you talk about your brother, I really am seeing an entirely different person now. And don't worry about figuring out if art is bad or good, it's so subjective and based a lot on how it makes you feel. And let's be honest, feeling suck sometimes."
He glanced down at his watch to check the time. It would take him a while to catch a bus to catch the train, to catch another bus to get home, so the offer of a ride home! he scolded his own dirty mind, was tempting. "You're not just trying to be nice, right?" he was stalling, trying to give Mingjue and out. "You know when you offer something out of politeness, but don't really want to do it, then accidentally get stuck doing it because you offered... this isn't that, right?"

Mingjue shrugged and said, "Not new precisely, but returning, and it's been about seven years, so you wouldn't have been there before."
He polished off his second pork bun quickly so that he wouldn't start feeling hungry while he was out on the floor and put his container in an out of the way spot on top of one of the banks of lockers where he could grab it again easily enough on his way out.
Mingjue snorted at Meng Yao asking if he was just doing it to be nice and said, "I don't do that. It might be too much trouble if you lived in Gilroy or something, but I did frame it with the area. It seemed efficient if we live in the same area because I know it can be a pain getting from here to the right train, especially late at night."

Meng Yao nodded and watched Mingjue tuck away his container. "I resent that," he said, pointing to the container above the lockers. "Not that you did anything wrong, I just resent you being tall," he stood next to the locker and placed his hand at the top of his bun, showing how short he was compared to the lockers.
"If you're certain you're not just being nice, I'll definitely bum a ride home with you. I live in Los Altos Hills, so even if you just get me to campus, I can get home from there. I don't want to burden you too much," he said, unconscious that he had started swaying to the beat of the music drifting in from the door.

Mingjue said, completely straight-faced, "I bet you hit your head on things far less than I do. But let me know if you ever need something grabbed from too high up for you to reach. It is a service I'm used to providing."
He nodded when Meng Yao explained where he lived and said, "Los Altos Hills isn't out of the way at all. I don't drive through it that often, but GPS will make sure I don't get lost on my way the rest of the way home."
He glanced at his phone quickly to check the time and said, "See you in a bit."
He was glad that the rest of the evening was pretty quiet. Mingjue's shift didn't cover the very end of the night because the owner came out and handled the crowd for the last bit of the hours until bar close. It was still about an hour before he was back in the locker room to grab his container and look for Meng Yao.

Meng Yao started at Mingjue, his mouth falling open, "Mingjue-ge has jokes? That one hurt a little too..." he placed he hand on his chest, feigning pain as watched the older man leave.
He dragged the chair back to the mirror and went back to his locker, grabbing a book he usually left in there. He sat cross-legged in the chair and started to read. His goal was to become a sex therapist and aside from that justifying him reading an abnormal amount of smut, it meant he got to read lots of books about sex and pleasure and desire. He kept a copy of the Kama Sutra in his locker for times when he was bored, or just had a spare minute. The book sometimes even informed his dances while on stage.
Meng Yao had gotten so involved in reading his book that he didn't even notice when Mingjue came back. He had flipped himself upside on the chair and had one leg up over the back of the chair, while his head hung down. He was attempting to mimic the position in the book in order to figure out its merits and if it was a possible candidate for his own dance routine.

Mingjue was amused by the position that Meng Yao had managed to contort himself into, though as he often was, he was slightly impressed by the flexibility and athleticism that many of the dancers possessed. He cleared his throat and said, "Sorry to bother you if you've gotten comfortable like that, but I'm off work."
He had gathered his things, and pulled his keys out of his pocket, ready to head for the car whenever Meng Yao was actually ready. It was only then that he caught what Meng Yao was reading, and he blinked a few times and shook his head, shrugging it off. Meng Yao was an adult, and he could read what he wanted to. It helped that Mingjue knew that Meng Yao was at least a year older than Huaisang, so he was definitely old enough to be reading whatever he wanted. Granted, Huaisang probably would have also had more interest in such a book than Mingjue did, but he wasn't ever going to bring that up to his brother.

Meng Yao looked up from the book when he heard Mingjue, "oh, hello. Sorry," he flipped his legs over his head and stood up, essentially completing an awkward, chair assisted backhand walkover-minus the hands. He smoothed out Huaisang's top and put the book back in his locker before grabbing his soiled clothes, then closing it.
"I'm ready when you are," he grabbed his leftovers from the staff fridge, holding them up to signal his readiness.

Mingjue was impressed with the way Meng Yao got up. He nodded and said, "That takes a lot of core strength."
He was quiet then as he led the way out to his car in the back. It wasn't anything spectacular, a ten-year old green volkswagon jetta with slightly peeling paint and a manual transmission, but it got him places, and didn't cost an arm and a leg to maintain. He did most of the work on it himself, and he'd gotten pretty good at it over the years. It was a practical car, even if Huaisang whined about it being ugly.
He unlocked the door and said, "I think that there's a paper grocery bag on the floor if you want to swipe it for carrying those."
Once he was settled into his side of the car, he unlocked his phone and pulled up the maps app and offered it to Meng Yao, "Unless you want to give me directions, tell my phone where to take you."

Meng Yao smiled, "we dancers do work out, just probably a little differently than you." He followed Mingjue out to the car and smiled softly, "you look like you and this car have been through a lot together." He opened the door for himself, "I mean that as a compliment, you car looks well loved and that's not an insult. I swear."
He muttered a "thanks" in reply to the offer and picked up the bag, placing his clothes inside. Meng Yao climbed into the car and buckled up; he took the phone from Mingjue and typed in his address, then swiped over to the phone function and punched in his own phone number. He pressed the call button and let it ring through to his own phone, then saved his number to the other man's phone. He flashed his dimples quickly before returning the phone.

Mingjue nodded and said, "I know, I'm consistently impressed by the displays of athleticism involved in dancing."
Mingjue shrugged about the comment about the car and said, "It's served me well for the past five years. It was a relief once I got it not to have to take transit up here every day. Huaisang is consistently bugging me about getting paint fixed up, but I take good care of the mechanical workings of it, and it's not rusting, so I don't see the point."
Mingjue stared at Meng Yao in confusion for a moment when the other man's phone started ringing, and then, as he took his phone back, realized that the other man must have called himself from Mingjue's phone to have his number. It was a bit of a roundabout way to approach it when Mingjue would have just told him if asked, but he shrugged and set up the phone in it's holder so that he could see the map at a glance if he needed to. He knew the start of the directions well enough though, so he started on his way, not having to focus too much on where he was going.
Mingjue thought for a second and then told Meng Yao, "If you want music, there should be an aux cable somewhere near your feet that hooks up to the sound. I do maintain the right to veto music selections if they'll distract me while driving though."

Meng Yao glanced at Mingjue curiously. "I honestly thought you'd scold me for stealing your phone number. I had my defense ready and everything." He crossed his arms and pouted, teasing, "spoil my fun why don't you?"
He laughed off his fake-sour mood and reached beneath his seat, hunting for the aux cable. He held it up triumphantly, then frowned, "I don't think you'll like anything I listen to. I honestly don't listen to music much, so I pretty much have three kinds of music, two of which most of time are interchangeable." He turned towards Mingjue, hoping he wasn't boring him and using his eyes to ask for permission to continue.

Mingjue glanced over at Meng Yao at the stoplight, seeing the pout, and said, "I would have given you my phone number if you asked. We're coworkers, and we live close enough together that it makes sense that I could give you a ride sometimes."
He laughed a little bit as he turned back to the street, driving calmly and competently, "I have a younger brother who is very good at pouting, and also at playing tricks on people, I've developed at least partial immunity."
Mingjue told him, "I'm fine either way on the music front."
He paused for a moment, not the most natural of conversationalists, but not wanting to bore Meng Yao during the admittedly rather long drive. Finally, he cleared his throat a little and asked, "Uh, so what are you majoring in?"

"Partial immunity, I'll have to work harder," Meng Yao teased. He knew he was flirting with Mingjue, though he wasn't sure Mingjue knew that. It didn't really matter, Meng Yao's own natural state was somewhere between flirting and being super accommodating, it just depended on how he felt at the time.
Mingjue had brought out his competitive nature. His lack of response to him made Meng Yao want to push more, but he forced himself to pull back. Let's not burn bridges or step over lines too quickly, he reminded himself.
"I'm a psychology major. I want to become a sex therapist, hence my obsession with reading all things of a sexual nature," Meng Yao mentally facepalmed himself. You just told yourself NOT to cross a line with him, why are you talking about sex?
He started fiddling with his phone, looking for a song to play. Once satisfied with his selection, 'So Amazing' by Luther Vandross began gently playing through the speakers.

Mingjue was glad that he had the excuse of focusing on driving to not be looking at Meng Yao when he explained what he wanted to use his major for. Mingjue was fairly certain that he went through a series of interesting facial expressions before finally settling on perplexed and saying, "I didn't know that was a career that existed. It's good to have a goal of a career that you're interested in though."
He was pretty sure that his voice sounded slightly strained. Sex wasn't something he exactly thought about much, and most of the time when he did it was in a vague sense of confusion as to why some of his peers seemed so interested in it.
He was pretty sure that he didn't want to ask what a sex therapist did. He was sure that as long as it was a real job and Meng Yao wasn't pulling his leg, it had some sort of value to many people, but the idea just perplexed him.
Trying to think of another subject, he asked, "Do you have a minor or are you just focusing on the one program?"
School seemed like a safer topic than careers.

"Yeah... It's oddly specific, I know and not something most people think actually exists. And no, it doesn't mean I have sex with clients, that's another one I get a lot," Meng Yao sighed, annoyed at a phantom idiot who'd asked him the question in the past. Now that he was actually talking about it, he felt more comfortable with it.
"Sex therapy actually uses psychology and physiology to help people who have concerns about intimacy, sexual feelings and sexual functions. So I'm not officially minoring in physiology, but I might change my mind in the future." Meng Yao looked over at Mingjue, trying to check how he was coping with the conversation. "I'm sorry if I've made you uncomfortable."
