Although he has his birth certificate, he hasn't yet figured out his bio parent's names. He was adopted by a middle-class white couple when he was around one years old, so he doesn't remember his life in China. According to his adopted parents, it took him a while to adjust to the new country, but they worked hard to keep his culture with him. It worked about as well as one would expect from two white people who, before deciding to adopt a child from there, knew next to nothing about China. Zizhen doesn't hold it against them, though, and actually appreciates their attempts to keep him connected to his culture. He had a bit of a tough time in school growing up, but never anything serious or even to the point it really fazed him. His sister was an unexpected surprise for the family, and that almost affected him more than any of the bullying. With a biological kid on the way, how would that change his dynamic with his parents? Although his parents initially told him nothing much would change, but they would need to spend more time with the baby, his sister ended up born with developmental delays that forced the family to readjust their entire life. A couple years after she was born, in a fit of anger, he told his parents he wished "[he] had never been adopted into this stupid family!" Even though he's since apologized, he still regrets saying those words. His sister slowly became like his best friend, and protecting her from bullying is the reason he's nearly gotten into fist fights on more than one occasion. He did well academically throughout school, but always struggled with reading (can't keep his attention on a book long enough), and so when it came time to apply to colleges, he just went for it. Turns out, Stanford saw potential in him. Thankfully, his parents had money set aside for college, and he was also granted a couple scholarships. the role player alias • Redeim age • 31 pronouns • he/him code • the one in the rules which version did you see • novel/drama/donghua other characters • wei wuxian |
