Nie Mingjue and Nie Huaisang share the Nie family home that was bought by their parents and inherited by them after their parents' deaths. The house is in the Southgate neighborhood of Palo Alto, only a few blocks off of Stanford's campus to the north east and right near Palo Alto High School. It's also an easy enough walk to downtown, the Caltrain station, and pretty much anything easily reachable on foot from Stanford campus (except maybe some stuff to the south west of campus).
The house was honestly a little bit too big for the family even before their parents passed away, but now it seems almost ludicrously large, and Nie Mingjue doesn't have much use for most of the spaces. Even so, since the family already owned the house in full, and he didn't want to uproot his younger brother, and it was convenient for being close to Stanford, they ended up staying. Maybe once he and Huaisang are both fully finished with their education, if Huaisang wants to find a place of his own, they'll sell the place and move, but maybe Mingjue will find a way to fill the place with people after all.
As of recently, Lan Xichen also has a key to the house and can sometimes be found there studying. He hasn't actually moved in, yet.
The house itself looks something like this (it is large and stone):
The floor plan of the first floor looks something like this:
There is a guest suite or secondary unit on the first floor that Mingjue has considered renting out, but when he looked into the legal side of it, he decided it was more trouble than it was worth. However, if he ever had a friend who wanted to move in as part of the household, but have more of their own personal space, he would seriously consider offering it to them. Right now, it is sort of an extended living space, and he uses the second kitchen for some cooking projects that would overwhelm the main kitchen (like canning or pickling). Mingjue has his main study are set up in the Living Room, and he's set up a shop in the garage so that he can work on cars, mainly his own.
The floor plan of the second floor looks something like this:
Bedroom #2 is Nie Mingjue's bedroom. Bedroom #3 is Nie Huaisang's bedroom, and Bedroom #4 is Nie Huaisang's home art studio. They've had these bedrooms since they were little kids, and they never bothered to change them. Among other things, it means that they both have about equal access to the nice bathroom in the master bedroom. However, if Xichen ever moved in, Mingjue would probably offer him the master bedroom up here if he wanted it. Right now, the master bedroom mostly just holds overflow of Huaisang's art.
